Supernova 2024gy - Spectral profile (updated)

Below, a low resolution spectral profile of the 2024gy. Even at this modest resolution some spectral signatures are clearly visible that helps to determine the supernova type: Mg II, Fe II and Si II absortions features are present and the usual Ia supernovas shifted Si II (6347Å) absorption line by aprox. 200Å in this case. That means an aprox. 11.000 Km/s burst expansion velocity, excluding own galaxy velocity . No presence of Hydrogen lines (6563Å), another indication of I type supernova.

y-axis flux values are relative.

Spectral profile of the 2024gy supernova acquired using a SA200 low resolution grating. 1x900s exposure.
